How often do you hear the phrase, “Networking is key, and the power behind the engine of your business”? If you’re not listening to that statement, you should be…because it’s pure truth.

You ask, “How do I network effectively, and what steps do I need to take to see positive results?”

Well, effective business networking is individuals connecting and, over time, developing a relationship and rapport, and growing trust, leading to becoming a walking billboard for each other. How cool is that?

To make your business networking more effective, here are ten tips to remember:

1. Be mindful that networking is being genuine, building trust and rapport, and truly caring about helping

others.

2. Be aware of what your goals are when attending networking meetings so you pick groups that can help

you get what you are looking for.

3. Visit many groups, noticing the attitude of each group, and if they sound supportive of one another.

4. If possible, volunteer for a position in the group to increase your visibility.

5. Show interest in others at networking events by asking questions; open-end questions gets them talking.

6. Become a powerful resource for others so they will turn to you as a strong source of information.

7. In order to get referrals, have a clear vision of what you do that will be beneficial to others and help you

stand out in their minds as special or different.

8. Be able to express clearly what you’re looking for, and how others can help you.

9. Always follow through on referrals you are given. It reflects on the person who gave you the referral.

10. Call everyone you meet who might benefit from what you do. Let them know you enjoyed meeting

them, and arrange to get together to share ideas.

Networking is the key to success in business. I can’t say enough about the power behind relationship building and networking. If it seems a little daunting, which it can at first, just remember Norman Vincent Peale’s optimistic quote, “Fake it until you make it!” TRY IT…IT WORKS!!!!!.
